In a third-grade classroom, students wrote essays about their dreams of becoming clowns.
The Chinese teacher frowned and said, “You lack ambition; these children are unworthy of instruction!”
In contrast, a foreign teacher would respond, “May you bring joy and laughter to the world!”
Insight: As elders, we often focus more on criticism than encouragement, and we tend to limit the definition of success to conventional standards.
